Reader Question: Glenfiddich 12 or Glenlivet 12?

In the midst of last night's usual bout with insomnia, I got to thinking about yesterday's post.  I had expended considerable hot air and HTML code about the two best-selling malts, but I didn't reach out to you all to find out what you thought.

So, Readers!  I know you're out there.  Google reports back to me your shoe size, mother's maiden name, and hamster's cholesterol count.  (Franklin Stewart of Tulsa, Oklahoma, you need to stop feeding  foie gras to Missy Pumpkin Cheeks, her LDLs are terrible.)

Which of these two, Glenfiddich 12 or Glenlivet 12, do you prefer?

I know some of you want to say "Neither", "Rum", "Death", or "Dalmore" (but I repeat myself, ZING!), but let's try to stick to GF12 and GL12.  You don't have to explain your answer, but it'd be a lot cooler if you did.

  1. I'd like the GL over the GF, while the GL has a tad more zing to it then the soft and sweet GF.

  2. I agree with Gert-Jan. The GF is a little sweet, and I'd prefer the GL. But let's get serious, like a beautiful woman, I'm not turning either down on a Saturday night.

  3. Glenlivet 12. Opened a Glenfiddich 12 mini a while back and found the whisky a bit weak tasting. Now a head to head between Glenfiddich 15 DE and Glenlivet Nadurra would be interesting...

  4. Uh oh. I'm out numbered three to one! Where are the Glenfiddich 12 lovers??????

  5. GL 12. The GF 12 is a bit too sweet up front and then far too dry on the finish. The GF 15 isn't bad, though, but you can't really do a direct comparison between the GF 15 and the GL 15 French Oak.

  6. I'm down 4 to 1 now!

Yeah, the GF 15 is an easy drinker. I may just have a slight palate bias towards GF's malt, but we'll see if that holds up when I try the 18s.
