Distillery character at all. I wouldn't stop you from getting a $30 bottle, in fact I'd be curious to see if it's "better" or "worse". I'm using quotes since there's some disagreement over what is good Tobermory and what isn't. :)

I also think I'm on the side of those who believe that e150a has a detectable bitter flavor. Rather than finding out if that's true, I'd rather avoid e150a altogether. I'm making an effort to do that in the full bottles I purchase, but for the sake of science I won't limit this blog's reviews to uncolored whisky. Yet.Diving for Pearlshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02373371259792882112noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3101162324715983722.post-12774667076220639072014-04-25T00:51:50.693-04:002014-04-25T00:51:50.693-04:00I'm (with you, I think) of the school of thoug...I'm (with you, I think) of the school of thought that it's the e150a that gives the bitter flavor - most evident in the finish, always, just like you noted. The other school of thought does not mind it, but my brain has made the connection some time ago of unnaturally dark whisky and that industrial bitterness, to the point that I avoid that color at a gut level. (See also our exchange re: TJ's 10yo, under your 4/14/14 entry.)

I'm still curious about a full bottle of this old Tobermory - although I passed last time I saw it for $30. You know I'm a bit distrustful of minis. I expected you'd find a full pot of cooked cabbage and broccoli in there, farts and all. Maybe in tomorrow's version. I'll have a dram of that in anticipation!Florinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14445344658258056628noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3101162324715983722.post-64517604984916472052014-04-24T23:42:48.166-04:002014-04-24T23:42:48.166-04:00Just saw on the Malt Monitor that the average of 9...Just saw on the Malt Monitor that the average of 9 Maniac scores on the 2002 release of this Tobermory was......66.

My hope is that the complete overhaul inspires people to give the new one a try. If that...No wonder Tobermory has such a bad rep. If that's what they were putting out for years, even the better, reformulated bottle will have a serious hurdle to overcome.Jordanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06448702693643593156noreply@blogger.com
