I thought, "No way am I spending $95 on a 13 year old whisky." Now I can't stop thinking of that ex-bourbon single cask one that sat on the shelf for months...Diving for Pearlshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02373371259792882112noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3101162324715983722.post-56141832284004320682013-09-15T23:40:23.639-04:002013-09-15T23:40:23.639-04:00They are plumbing the depths of our pockets. It seems that the prices will start finding a plateau soon. The last round was bad enough, with a lot of the 14 year olds hitting $100. I'm not sure what the importer is thinking.Jordanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06448702693643593156noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3101162324715983722.post-12892032085714160932013-09-12T14:40:03.707-04:002013-09-12T14:40:03.707-04:00You chose wisely, my friend. You chose wisely, my friend.Diving for Pearlshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02373371259792882112noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3101162324715983722.post-10969352791605812242013-09-12T01:19:59.647-04:002013-09-12T01:19:59.647-04:00Huh, I think I saw a few bottles left on the shelv...Huh, I think I saw a few bottles left on the shelves but I instead went with Springbank Calvados Cask. I like weird Springbank finishes because they are usually pretty good. And Sku gave a good review.

There's also a 15 year old cask strength Springbank that's been matured in a "re-charred" sherry cask that I was reluctant to buy since it's $149.99. Yep, it's new whiskies season.Erichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13215982348779717643noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3101162324715983722.post-23085686527566479282013-09-11T15:10:06.833-04:002013-09-11T15:10:06.833-04:00Thanks for the link! It's definitely relevant,...Thanks for the link! It's definitely relevant, especially as all the whisk(e)y craft folks in every country are trying figure out how to speed up maturation. I have a feeling that it's difficult to rush a good thing, and it's more important to get the product completed well rather than fast -- in short and long term business plans. If you rush a whisk(e)y to market via shortcuts and the stuff sucks, you won't have the opportunity for a long term business plan.

Chuck Cowdery knows his stuff better than almost everyone and it's good to see Buffalo Trace admitting failure (whether or not it seems to be a poke in the eye of small distillers). And it is still good to know BT is experimenting.Diving for Pearlshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02373371259792882112noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3101162324715983722.post-40411470553568479992013-09-11T14:58:56.405-04:002013-09-11T14:58:56.405-04:00I don't know if you've seen this (and it&#...I don't know if you've seen this (and it's bourbon-oriented, not Scotch), but interesting nonetheless: Small Barrels Still Produce Lousy Whiskey.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
