K&L narrowed it down by saying it's not from Islay. And the fairly heavy peat factor eliminates the two Orkney malts. So it's a seven year old Talisker, Ledaig, or Jura.Erichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13215982348779717643noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3101162324715983722.post-79419753332070452812013-10-16T15:04:12.637-04:002013-10-16T15:04:12.637-04:00I almost got that Aberlour, went with David Stirk&...I almost got that Aberlour, went with David Stirk's Bowmore instead. I've had three unsherried indie Aberlours and liked them all, so you likely chose wisely. That blend looks fun too. Those two are still on my Maybe list.Diving for Pearlshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02373371259792882112noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3101162324715983722.post-16687923215531881912013-10-15T00:27:58.266-04:002013-10-15T00:27:58.266-04:00K&L really knocked it out of the park this yea...K&L really knocked it out of the park this year. Not only did they grab A LOT more casks this year but most are really decently priced (the 32 year old Faultline blend is way too cheap for that age). I ended up grabbing the Aberlour, the Faultline blend, the Fettercairn, Glen Elgin, and Royal Lochnagar on top of the Cambus. I think my whisky shopping is done for the rest of the year.

Loch Lomond is the only distillery making column still single malt but I've never seen any on the market. And they aren't members of the SWA because they are making column still single malt and the feud between them is still ongoing.Erichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13215982348779717643noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3101162324715983722.post-22577330637886600972013-10-14T23:53:05.656-04:002013-10-14T23:53:05.656-04:00I think there are some American craft distillers w...I think there are some American craft distillers who are/were trying to do single malts in column stills, but I forgot who they were.

And, man oh man, have single grain prices gone up a lot since this post. And the Davids' Sig Cambus is one of the better priced ones.Diving for Pearlshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02373371259792882112noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3101162324715983722.post-16067489379390913942013-10-14T22:38:59.928-04:002013-10-14T22:38:59.928-04:00Signatory seems to have saved some casks for addit...Signatory seems to have saved some casks for additional aging. The Cambus the Davids picked from Signatory is from the same year but bottled at 21 years. I'll have to compare your tasting notes to mine to see how three years have changed this whisky.

By the way, it's perfectly feasible to make single malt whisky in a column still. It's called silent malt and would be a sixth category of Scotch whisky if it weren't for the SWA regulations.Erichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13215982348779717643noreply@blogger.com
